Jr. Team Tennis - Creating a Successful League

10 Steps to establishing a successful Jr. Team Tennis league

  1. Appoint JTT Program Coordinator to oversee the growth and development of the league
  2. Contact and evaluate the community/communities involved
    1. Level of tennis interest in the community
    2. Availability of tennis courts
    3. Current programming being offered
    4. Contact information of key people
  3. Set dates for your season & decide which divisions are being offered
  4. Establish formats: (Play formats & Scoring formats)
  5. Set up program in TennisLink: (Establish coaches & teams)
  6. Agree on scheduling format
    1. Number of matches (same for each team)
    2. Dual matches or tournaments
  7.  Establish scheduling approach
    1. Decide on a consistent day/time to schedule matches each week
    2. Team coaches/managers identify which days/times they are available
    3. Team coach/manager contact information is distributed
    4. Each team/community may host a tournament (optional)
  8. Schedule is posted on TennisLink
  9. Practices and matches start
    * Note: Players must be registered online prior to first match
  10. Scores are entered online

Other Notes:

  • Host a Recreational Coach Workshop or QuickStart Tennis workshop prior to your JTT league start-date.
  • Check with your USTA District Office to determine if your teams are eligible for your JTT District Championship
  • Remember: Jr. Team Tennis promotes the values and spirit of competition in a fun, team atmosphere where kids can learn that success is based on how you play – win or lose.
