Position:
Marketing and Communications Intern
Time Frame: Summer 2009 and Fall 2009
Pay Level: None - credit hours only
Classification: Temporary - Non-paid
Responsibilities: The Marketing and Communications Intern(s) is responsible for assisting the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Communications Coordinators in their efforts for the USTA Missouri Valley. This position requires the intern to have excellent interpersonal skills, proper telephone etiquette, and good follow-through on any assigned tasks. A "can do" attitude and positive public relations are integral to the USTA Missouri Valley’s success.
Hours: The amount of hours per week will be agreed upon with the Director of Marketing and Communications. Hours may include some night and weekend duties. The internship program will be developed in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the college/university so that requirements are met for the internship. Travel is optional.
- Assist with designing, coordinating and distributing marketing and promotional materials
- Assist in on-site presence at events, including booth set-up, staffing and tear down
- Assist with designing, coordinating and distributing communications for member, partner, volunteer and sponsor needs
- Assist with writing and distributing press releases, media advisories and other public relations materials
- Assist with writing articles and proofing copy for publications
- Maintain or create various databases including media lists
- Assist with data collection, writing and proofing annual Yearbook publication
- Assist with meeting communication and material preparation
- Research best practices, products and services on the Internet and through other sources
- Research, coordinate and execute social media tactics.
Qualifications:
- Ability to take direction and work independently
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Knowledge of general marketing and/or public relations principles
- Must possess a professional, mature demeanor
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and in interpersonal settings
- Must possess minimum computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft software programs
- Minimum education and experience: enrolled in a four-year college or university or in a relevant degree program such as marketing, communications, public relations, or business. Other equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
